Privacy policy
Markwell Product Schema ("Markwell", "the app") is a Shopify app that adds structured data to a store's pages so search engines can read its products. It is run by Jake Windram-Ashby, a sole trader based in Melbourne, Australia ("we", "us").
This policy explains what information the app uses when a merchant installs it, why, and what happens to it.
Information the app uses
From your Shopify store, through Shopify's API. When you install Markwell, Shopify gives the app permission to read your products and your online store's themes. The app uses this to:
- build structured data for your storefront pages from your product details, such as titles, prices, stock, barcodes, images and the review ratings your review app saves
- show you in the app which products are missing details Google needs
- check whether Markwell is switched on in your live theme, and whether your theme or other apps add their own structured data
Product details are read when needed and are not copied to our servers.
Stored on our servers. To run the app, we store:
- your store's address (for example example.myshopify.com) and the access token Shopify issues to the app
- whether Markwell is switched on in your live theme, and the name of that theme
- the result of the most recent theme check (which theme files add structured data)
- the dates we last emailed you an alert
Stored in your Shopify store. Your Markwell settings (shipping, returns, product condition and any store details you enter for Google) are saved in your own store as app data, not on our servers.
Your store's email address. If you leave alerts on, the app reads your store's contact email from Shopify when it needs to send you an alert, and sends it through our email provider. We don't store the address.
Your customers
Markwell does not access, collect or store personal information about your customers or shoppers. The code it adds to your storefront doesn't set cookies, track visitors or send data anywhere. It only adds structured data to the page and removes duplicate structured data from it.
Who processes the information
- Fly.io hosts the app, in Sydney, Australia.
- Neon hosts the app's database, in Sydney, Australia.
- Cloudflare sends alert emails.
- Shopify provides the data the app reads and handles installation and billing.
We don't sell or share your information with anyone else, and don't use it for advertising.
How long it's kept
When you uninstall Markwell, everything we store for your store is deleted straight away. Shopify also sends a data removal request 48 hours after uninstalling, and we delete anything remaining at that point. Shopify removes the settings stored in your store when the app is uninstalled. Server logs, which can include your store's address, are kept by our hosting provider for a short period for troubleshooting, then deleted.
Your rights
You can ask what information we hold about your store, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted, by emailing hello@markwellhq.com. Uninstalling the app also deletes it. We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles, and respond to requests made under the GDPR and similar laws through Shopify's privacy request process.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new date.
